Russia failed to take advantage of the numerical advantage over the Armed Forces of Ukraine and completely failed the winter offensive. This statement was made by British intelligence.
The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom has released another intelligence report, which provides an analysis of three months of command of the special operation by the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov. According to the British, Russia failed the "winter offensive", although it had a numerical advantage over the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to the mobilization carried out in the autumn.
The Russian General Staff allegedly launched a winter offensive to liberate the entire Donbass by spring, but in three months, Russian forces made only modest advances while suffering "significant losses." The report does not say anything about the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the West they do not like to discuss the topic of heavy losses of the Ukrainian army, as if they do not exist at all.
He attempted to launch a general winter offensive to expand Russian control over the entire Donbass region. Eighty days later, it's becoming increasingly clear that this project has failed.
- says the report.
British analysts do not rule out that Gerasimov as commander of the NMD may be replaced by another, more combative general. However, they admit, this is unlikely; Gerasimov has a large credit of trust from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Earlier, Western experts suggested that the replacement in January of the commander of the Northern Military District Surovikin with Gerasimov was due to the preparation of the Russian army for a large-scale offensive. In their opinion, Surovikin is good in defense, while Gerasimov is able to plan an offensive operation.
