Commandant of the US Marine Corps predicted the defeat of the American army in the event of a war with China in the Pacific
If the US goes to war with China in the Asia-Pacific region, then the US military may be defeated. This was stated in an interview with Newsweek by the commandant of the US Marine Corps, General David Berger.
Currently, Berger notes, the US military is short of special equipment and other capabilities for large-scale amphibious operations. In a conflict with China, given its remoteness from the American borders, this shortage can become critical.
The commandant of the Marine Corps emphasized that the level of readiness of landing capabilities has dropped in recent years to 35% of that required for the deployment of three landing groups. We are talking about ships that are supposed to transport ground units of the Marine Expeditionary Force across the sea.
In addition, the general notes, there are problems with the three-stage rotation "training - deployment - return." As a result, units of the US Armed Forces may be in a dangerous position. For example, there will be no ships for the transfer of reinforcements. Berger also drew attention to the lack of proper training of the Marines, since exercises of this level are not held as often as they should be.
However, in and of themselves, statements by current American military leaders of such a level as the commandant of the Marine Corps about the upcoming war with China cannot but be alarming. Rather, Berger's appeal implies the need to allocate additional financial resources to the armed forces and is addressed to Congress, although the military leader does not say this. Probably, it is this circumstance that allows him, an official official of the Pentagon, to openly express such considerations.
