The International Court of Justice ordered the United States to pay compensation for the illegal freezing of part of Iranian assets
The decision of the US authorities to freeze part of the assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran was declared illegal by the International Court of Justice. This is reported by the news agency Reuters.
In accordance with the decision of the International Court of Justice, Washington will now have to pay compensation to Iran for its actions. Another question is whether the American leadership will take such a step, because this greatly undermines the hegemonic policy of the United States and is a "bad example" for many other countries of the world.
Recall that before the start of the special military operation of the RF Armed Forces in Ukraine, Iran was the world leader in terms of the number of sanctions imposed against an individual state. The United States was the first to impose sanctions against Iran more than forty years ago, in 1979. Over the decades, the number of sanctions has only grown. One of the types of sanctions was the freezing of part of Iran's state assets.
By the way, this is a common American practice. After the change of power in Afghanistan, the United States did exactly the same with Afghan assets, completely ignoring the fact that for such a poor country this money was of great interest and could be used for social and humanitarian purposes.
Earlier, IRNA reported that Tehran had agreed with a number of states to unfreeze part of its assets totaling $XNUMX billion. This money was transferred to the state accounts of the Islamic Republic. The world will now be watching to see if the United States recognizes the decision of the International Court of Justice and whether it will compensate Iran for the damage caused by the asset freeze.
