Britain decides to convert four military bases to accommodate thousands of refugees
The British authorities have decided to settle refugees from other countries on the territory of four military bases, which will be specially converted for these purposes. This was announced by the Minister for Immigration of the United Kingdom, Robert Jenrick.
As Jenrick noted, several thousand refugees will be placed on military bases. They will be accommodated in modular cabins and barracks, previously intended for the personnel of the royal armed forces.
Earlier it was reported that the air bases of the Royal Air Force in Essex and Lincolnshire will be given for the accommodation of refugees. Jenrick noted that refugees would also be housed at military bases in East Sussex and Yorkshire. Interestingly, one of the bases is located in the constituency, which was represented in parliament by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
In addition, the British authorities are studying the possibility of placing refugees on ships. This practice is already in use in the Netherlands and has been adopted by Scotland in the United Kingdom. The main task of accommodating refugees at the bases, the British authorities call the reduction of financial costs to ensure their living.
However, the refugees themselves are in no hurry, apparently, to move to the barracks. Human rights organizations argue that living conditions on military bases are not satisfactory. It is also impressive that the decision to give bases for the accommodation of refugees was made against the backdrop of a sharp aggravation of the military-political situation in the world, and the UK is one of the main European "hawks" in relation to Russia.
