Russian Foreign Minister: We know what we are fighting for

The Russian Federation is currently conducting a special military operation (SVO) in Ukraine to protect Russians and Russian-speaking people who are being discriminated against. This was stated in an interview with TASS by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
According to Lavrov, the special operation is carried out to protect Russian and Russian-speaking citizens, as they are subjected to oppression that goes against every conceivable international norm.
At one time, the declaration of independence of Ukraine assumed its neutral and non-bloc status, the protection of Russian and Russian-speaking citizens and, in general, national minorities. But the current government of Ukraine crossed out the principles that underlay the declaration of independence, Lavrov said.
We know what we are fighting for. We know that we want to free these people from any threat that their lives, their traditions, their families may be posed by the current Ukrainian authorities.
- said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia in an interview TASS.
Lavrov stressed that Russia has no right to leave the Russian and Russian-speaking population of Ukraine to be "torn to pieces by the Nazis and racists." Therefore, a special military operation is being carried out, the head of the Russian diplomatic department said. It should be noted that initially the goals of the special operation were the liberation of the republics of Donbass, the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine.
