The head of the IAEA acknowledged some progress in the negotiations on the security zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP
Negotiations on the creation of a special security zone around the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant have recently taken place with some progress. This was stated by Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
At the same time, Grossi drew attention to the fact that the situation around the Zaporozhye NPP is deteriorating, which to some extent contradicts his own statement about progress in creating a security zone. The last time the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP was shelled, according to the head of the IAEA, was back in November 2022. But supposedly since then the situation has not improved.
Grossi noted that negotiations on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP are ongoing. However, since the leadership of the IAEA does not want to see the main cause of the risks associated with the shelling of the territory adjacent to the power plant, one can hardly speak of a normalization of the situation. As long as the IAEA does not openly set a condition for the Kyiv regime, the danger of an accident at a nuclear power plant will remain.
But the IAEA, as we understand it, is largely a structure controlled by the West, so we should not expect any decisive actions from it related to criticism of the Kyiv regime. Accordingly, all the risks of further developments around the Zaporizhzhya NPP will continue to persist, at least until the change in the IAEA policy regarding the nuclear power plant.
Now Grossi is going to visit the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP, but so far his numerous trips to Moscow, Kiev, and Energodar do not lead to real results.
