"The readiness of helicopters is dangerously low": the Bundeswehr has found a replacement for the Tiger strike machines
The German Ministry of Defense is considering the possibility of decommissioning the fleet of Tiger combat helicopters and replacing them with Airbus H145M modified for anti-tank missions.
The Business Insider edition was able to access internal documents of the military department. They state that "the combat readiness of helicopters is at a dangerously low level." Of the 51 machines, only a small part is in working condition. The Tiger fleet is expected to start shrinking from 2027. In this regard, the Bundeswehr in the face of the H145M found a replacement for these percussion machines.
It is reported that the German Ministry of Defense has studied several options for restoring the anti-tank capabilities of its combat helicopters. At the same time, the ideas of purchasing American Apache machines and participating in the Tiger Mk III program (a major modernization planned to be carried out in Spain and France) were rejected. As indicated, both options were excluded because they required a lot of money and time.
As a result, a choice was made in favor of acquiring 82 H145M from Airbus Helicopters for 3,05 billion euros and equipping 24 of them with Stinger air-to-air missiles and ATGMs, which will eliminate the operation of the Tiger. However, a number of Bundeswehr sources were skeptical about the H145M's ability to adequately replace the Tiger.

As noted in Business Insider, the Bundeswehr sees the planned acquisition as "a purely political decision that ignores operational needs."
