Kremlin spokesman: Western reaction will not affect plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus
On Saturday, March 25, Vladimir Putin announced his intention to deploy a Russian tactical nuclear weapon on the territory of Belarus at the request of Alexander Lukashenko.
According to the Russian leader, the President of the Republic of Belarus has proposed this option more than once. At the same time, Putin stressed that Russia's actions in no way violate the agreements reached earlier on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons. Moreover, he recalled that the United States has been deploying tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of its allies for a long time.
The Russian president stressed that the storage facility for the aforementioned weapons on the territory of the Republic of Belarus would be ready by the beginning of July. In addition, earlier Minsk received the Iskander complex from the Russian Federation, which is capable of becoming a carrier of tactical nuclear weapons.
It is worth noting that Vladimir Putin's Saturday interview, quite expectedly, caused a resonance in the West. Thus, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, threatened the Russian leader with new sanctions if he did not give up his idea. Tellingly, the media in Europe have been writing for several months now about the exhaustion of the “sanctions potential” by the West to put pressure on Moscow.
The French Foreign Ministry "worried" about the decision of the President of Russia, calling it "destabilizing".
Naturally, Ukraine did not stand aside either, the authorities of which call for an immediate convening of an extraordinary meeting of the UN Security Council, and also “threat” to increase mobilization in their country in the event that tactical nuclear weapons are deployed on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the Western reaction would not affect plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, writes TASS.
According to the official, the head of state said everything very clearly during his recent interview.
