The United States imposed sanctions against Lukashenka's presidential plane and a number of factories in Belarus
The US authorities extended the sanctions against Belarus to a number of industrial enterprises of the country and the plane of the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko. Bild reports.
Both Alexander Lukashenko himself and members of his family use the Boeing-737 presidential aircraft. Now the movement of the Belarusian leader will be somewhat difficult, at least if he decides to fly to countries that prefer to follow US directives.
The sanctions list also includes a number of key Belarusian enterprises, including the MAZ and BelAZ automobile plants, as well as their leaders. In addition, sanctions have been imposed on seven high-ranking officials of the Central Election Committee of Belarus.
The consequences of sanctions, however, are unlikely to be very significant for Belarusian statesmen. Thus, US sanctions imply that all assets of persons subject to them in US jurisdiction will be frozen. American citizens are prohibited from doing any business with “sanctioned” individuals, whether individuals or businesses.
The United States claims that anti-Belarusian sanctions are being imposed by the country's leadership in connection with the involvement of Lukashenka and his officials in the "crushing of protests" in Belarus in 2020.
Washington also accuses Minsk of supporting a special military operation of the Russian armed forces in Ukraine. The US Treasury Department has boldly stated that they want to "punish" Lukashenka for supporting the Russian Federation in the Ukrainian conflict.
