Slovakia handed over to Ukraine the first 4 MiG-29 fighters from the promised batch
22
The first 4 MiG-29 fighters, previously in service with the Slovak air force, have been delivered to Ukraine. This was announced by the Minister of Defense of Slovakia Yaroslav Nagy.
Earlier, the military department of Slovakia announced the transfer of 13 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. These aircraft were in service with the Slovak air force, but then the country's Ministry of Defense decided to abandon the use of obsolete Soviet-made aircraft.
Thus, the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine has been launched. Poland promises to transfer another 20 MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. It will be in service with the Ukrainian Air Force after the Polish deliveries of 33 MiG-29 fighters.
Meanwhile, the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not very satisfied with the supply of Soviet-made aircraft. The official representative of the Air Force of Ukraine, Colonel Yuriy Ignat, has previously stated that fighters of this type are outdated and inefficient. He expressed doubt that they can withstand modern cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles used by the Russian armed forces.
But NATO countries are in no hurry to transfer Western-made aircraft to Ukraine, primarily due to the lack of pilots and technical specialists capable of operating and maintaining these aircraft. Western pilots, for obvious reasons, are also apparently not eager to go to serve in Ukraine, where there is a very high risk of ending their flying career forever.
