American airlines urged US authorities to ban foreign competitors from flying over Russia
The US authorities, including Congress and the White House, should take care to ban foreign airlines from flying over Russian territory. This position is defended by American airlines, according to The New York Times.
At one time, American airlines lost the opportunity to fly in Russian airspace due to restrictions imposed by the West. As a result, Russian routes were lost for them, thanks to which fuel was saved and the flight time of the aircraft was reduced. American airlines were forced to change logistics, reduce the number of tickets sold and postpone flights to Asian countries.
Naturally, the vacated niche was immediately occupied by competitors of American airlines from third countries. They have no restrictions on flights over Russia, so they can offer faster and cheaper air routes for passengers. American airlines were "offended" and demanded the US administration intervene and protect aviation business of the country from such dangerous competitors as Air India, Emirates and China Eastern Airlines.
In the US aviation business, the annual financial losses of the industry are estimated at no less than $2 billion. And those are very optimistic estimates. Therefore, companies insist on the early intervention of the US administration and the application of the same restrictions to foreign carriers that currently exist for American airlines.
The only question that arises is whether American structures are taking on too much, hoping to prohibit airlines of sovereign states from flying over a third country?
