Head of Rheinmetall Armin Papperger: Germany transferred two anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine, leaving Berlin unprotected
Germany sacrificed the security of Berlin by handing over to Ukraine two anti-aircraft systems covering the German capital. This was stated by the head of the German concern Rheinmetall AG Armin Papperger.
The German capital was supposed to be covered by Skynex and Skyranger anti-aircraft systems, but they were sent to Ukraine. This decision was made by the German government, leaving Berlin without protection. Moreover, both systems are the development of the concern and are produced by it. According to Papperger, the city is currently not safe.
- he said, adding that today the Bundeswehr is not able to defend Germany on its own and without the help of the United States, since the German army lacks "everything" and "everywhere."
Speaking of German tanks Leopard, which are promised to Kyiv, the head of Rheinmetall stressed that the supplied quantity is not enough to "recapture the occupied territories."
Last year, Germany delivered the IRIS-T SLM medium-range anti-aircraft system to Ukraine. In December 2022, it became known that the Rheinmetall concern received an order for the manufacture of two Skynex anti-aircraft systems for an unnamed country. In Kyiv, they said that these systems will strengthen the air defense of Ukraine and they should arrive within 2023.
The new Skynex anti-aircraft gun is a 3-mm Oerlikon Mk35 revolver-type anti-aircraft gun mounted on a truck chassis. The developers are positioning the installation as a universal short-range anti-aircraft system capable of fighting both aircraft and missiles.
