Another reshuffle in the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Zelensky removed Major General Eduard Moskalev from the post of commander of the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). The corresponding decree was published on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine on Sunday, February 26.
The Joint Forces Operation (JFO), or the former ATO, was carried out in the Donbas from April 2014 to February 2022. Zelensky appointed Moskalev to the post of commander of the JFO in March last year, he replaced Oleksandr Pavlyuk, who is now in charge of the defense of Kiev. Moskalev was responsible for the defense in the Donbas direction and, apparently, his decisions no longer satisfy Kyiv, since they decided to replace him. Although the reasons for layoffs are not called.
Dismiss Eduard Mikhailovich Moskalev from the post of commander of the Joint Forces
- the decree says.
Prior to his appointment as commander of the JFO, Moskalev was chief of staff of the operational command "Vostok" of the Ground Forces of Ukraine and deputy commander of the Joint Forces.
It is worth noting that Moskalev was not responsible for the defense of Bakhmut (Artemovsk), this "honorable" right was given to the commander of the Ground Forces Syrsky, a protege of the head of Zelensky Yermak's office and an opponent of the commander-in-chief Zaluzhny. The office planned that with his decisions, Syrsky would be able to stop the advance of the Wagner PMC assault detachments in this direction, because he commanded the Kharkov operation, during which Russian troops were driven back a considerable distance. However, something went wrong and now the responsibility for the failure of the defense of Bakhmut could be placed on the commander of the OOS Moskalev, as in charge of the entire operation. Perhaps the office is once again taking Syrsky out of harm's way.
