The United States has not yet decided on its position on providing military assistance to Ukraine if the Armed Forces of Ukraine begin hostilities in Crimea. Washington does not have a clear answer to this question. Jake Sullivan, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States.
CNN correspondents asked Sullivan to give a specific answer to the question of supporting Ukraine in the event of hostilities in Crimea, if Zelensky decides on a forceful option to seize the peninsula. However, the representative of the US administration could not give an unequivocal answer to this question, saying that the task of the United States is to gain an advantage for the Ukrainian army on the battlefield in order to gain a stronger position in the negotiations that will certainly follow.
I can't give a "yes" or "no" answer to a question about a hypothetical development. At the moment, President Zelensky is focused on strengthening his position on the battlefield, strengthening his position at the negotiating table in the future. We want to help Ukraine make sure that successes on the battlefield can be used at the negotiating table (...)
Sullivan added.
Washington believes that it is too early to talk about hostilities in Crimea, now all the forces of Kyiv are concentrated in the Donbass, where the situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is not as rosy as they are trying to file in Kiev.
Meanwhile, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine states that the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will begin this spring in the southern direction. The Armed Forces of Ukraine will try to drive a wedge between Crimea and mainland Russia in order to occupy the peninsula. Zelensky simply has a manic desire to seize Crimea.
