Caspian Flotilla celebrates 290 anniversary
November 15 Caspian flotilla celebrates the 290th anniversary of its inception. She appeared in 1722 according to the Decree of Peter I. Gradually, she became a husband, gained strength, eventually completing a glorious military path, becoming a decisive factor in the establishment of Russia as a sea power in the Caspian.
Today, the Caspian Flotilla is acquiring a new look, its combat capabilities are being improved. It consists of new missile, artillery, amphibious ships, which are equipped with the most modern models of weapons.
In the near future, the Caspian flotilla will qualitatively change and strengthen its ship composition. On the stocks of the "Zelenodolsk plant named after A. Gorky" laid four new small rocket ships with the newest universal missile complex "Caliber-NK". The third small artillery ship, Makhachkala, passes the state tests; the lead ship of this project, Astrakhan, in the 2012 year, became part of the flotilla and, from its tactical and technical characteristics, proved itself from the best side.
In the summer, the flotilla was reinforced by two more new ships - the rocket ship Dagestan and the small artillery ship Volgodonsk. Their hulls are built using “stealth technologies”, which reduce the radar visibility of ships.
In addition to increasing ship formations, the coastal missile complex "Ball" entered the flotilla. A division may affect both surface targets and stationary ground targets of a potential enemy.
Caspian warriors approached the holiday date with high rates in combat training. During the 2012 school year, fleet units of the flotilla performed about 200 combat exercises, which is 20% more than the 2011 year, more than 10 artillery firing, about 40 mine exercises and practical mine settings.
Produced about 10 missile firing cruise missiles from ships and flotilla boats. Successfully tested high precision weapons.
During the Kavkaz-2012 exercise, for the first time, a simultaneous rocket launch from four directions from 3 ships of various projects and the Bal coastal missile system was carried out with the defeat of a complex naval target simulating a detachment of surface ships of a potential enemy.
Compared to the 2011 school year, the number of shipborne training in the sea increased from 85 to 156.
Today, the Caspian Flotilla is a powerful, combat-ready unification, which is a guarantee of the integrity and security of Russia's sea borders in a far from simple region. In the conditions of growing political activity around the Caspian Sea, the flotilla remains an important stabilizing factor here and is an effective tool of the state’s foreign policy in the Caspian.
