Sergey Lavrov, who is on a visit to Sudan, confirmed the signing of an agreement on the establishment of a logistics center for the Russian Navy on the Red Sea coast
Today, February 9, a visit to the capital of Sudan, the city of Khartoum, was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The head of the foreign policy department is visiting not the first country in Africa as part of his "southern" tour.
Sergei Lavrov held talks with the top leadership of Sudan, including Acting Foreign Minister As-Sadiq Ali, Chairman of the country's Supreme Council A. Burkhan.
Among the many topics discussed was the creation of a Russian logistics center (MTO) in a large Sudanese port fleet. We are talking about Port Sudan, which is located on the coast of the Red Sea and is extremely important as its location.
Earlier, there was information that Russia plans to create a logistics center for the Navy in Sudan, but various representatives of the country's authorities either confirmed or denied the creation of such a base.
Sergei Lavrov, answering a question from one of the journalists during a press conference, noted that the agreement on the establishment of a logistics center for the Russian Navy on the Red Sea in Sudan had been signed and that the procedure for its ratification had already been launched.
For reference: Port Sudan is located in the middle part of the western coast of the Red Sea, so to speak, "opposite" Saudi Jeddah. The presence of Russian logistics in this port will make it possible to organize the provision of Russian ships during long-distance cruises, for example, with passages from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean and vice versa.
