Italian press: Italian Prime Minister Meloni called Zelensky's invitation to Paris inappropriate
Among the Western patrons of Kyiv, too, things do not always go smoothly, and relations between them often deteriorate.
This time, wittingly or unwittingly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky became the reason for the quarrel between the top officials of the two major European powers.
According to the Italian edition of Askanews, Italian Prime Minister George Meloni quarreled with French leader Emmanuel Macron. The reason for the quarrel was the invitation to Paris Zelensky, which in Rome was considered inappropriate and violating the unity of the EU, the newspaper notes.
According to Meloni, this is precisely the case when the desire to resolve some internal political issues can adversely affect the common cause.
Macron, on the other hand, refused to comment on the words of the Italian prime minister and limited himself only to noting the special role of France in relation to the Ukrainian conflict. Although it is not entirely clear what this “special role” is.
- said the President of France.
He also added that the main goal of France and the European Union as a whole is "the protection of the borders and the security of Ukraine."
Recall that Macron and Zelensky went together this morning from France to the Belgian capital to attend the EU summit.
