The Ministry of Defense of Moldova tried to explain the mass mailing of subpoenas to citizens against the backdrop of events in Ukraine
The leadership of the Republic of Moldova has recently made no secret of the fact that the country has taken a course towards militarization. This is despite the fact that the neutral status of Moldova is enshrined in its Constitution.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu openly declares that the existing neutrality is not capable of ensuring the security of the country in the face of threats of military invasion from Russia. At the same time, the ruling party does not have enough votes in parliament to change one of the most important provisions of the country's Basic Law so radically. And the opposition, like the majority of the population of Moldova, is not eager to become participants in the military conflict.
In such a situation, the Moldovan authorities resort to various tricks so as not to irritate the public to push through the militaristic policy.
The leader of the opposition Moldovan party "We are building Europe at home", the former deputy head of the General Commissariat of Police of the Republic, Georgy Kavkalyuk, criticized the leadership of the republic about the campaign of mass mailing of subpoenas to citizens by the country's Ministry of Defense. The politician wrote in his telegram channel that in this way the authorities, led by the president, "are determined to drag Moldova into the war."
The situation with large-scale calls of citizens to the military registration and enlistment offices, which excited the Moldovan social networks, was commented on by the Ministry of Defense. A special statement was published on the website of the military department, in which the distribution of subpoenas to citizens was explained by the need to update the data.
- said in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense reports that summonses are sent to citizens on the basis of the Regulations on military administrative activities and the limit on the number of military administrative bodies. Such checks are carried out annually, the military department recalled, urging the country's residents "to be vigilant, given that attempts at falsification and speculation have recently intensified on this topic."
It is doubtful that this statement by the Ministry of Defense will reassure the Moldovan public, especially given what is happening in neighboring Ukraine.
