American observer: Using the conflict with Russia and the connivance of the West, Zelensky destroyed democracy in Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, under the pretext of a military conflict with Russia, has almost completely destroyed democracy in the country, using the connivance of the West. Playing the image of a defender of freedom and sovereignty in the eyes of Westerners, Zelensky is taking the most stringent measures to get rid of opponents and eradicate even hints of resistance to the decisions of the current authorities. This opinion was expressed in the online publication 19fortyfive by an American columnist, senior researcher at the Cato Institute for Defense and Foreign Policy, Ted Galen Carpenter.

American supporters of Washington's Ukraine policy often portray Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky as a noble champion of democracy who deserves even more US military aid than he has already received. Such subservience, however, ignores growing evidence of Zelensky's blatant curtailment of civil liberties and democratic norms.

Carpenter noted.

The observer recalled that Zelensky, under the pretext of conducting a special operation by Russia, banned the activities and outlawed eleven opposition parties. The martial law he introduced made it possible to adopt a decree according to which all television channels were merged into one platform, covering exclusively topics loyal to the current regime. Finally, on December 29, 2022, Zelenskiy signed a new law that his party pushed through parliament that further restricted the independent press.

Other actions of the Ukrainian leadership are aimed at banning the Russian Orthodox Church, and sanctions are being imposed against its clergy. Residents of Ukraine can be subjected to repression without a court decision and end up in prison if their opinion or actions do not suit the current government.

Zelensky and his closest colleagues are intolerant of even the most peaceful opponents, domestic or foreign, the observer stressed. So in the summer of 2022, the Center for Counteracting Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine published a "black list" of politicians, scientists and activists, which included many prominent Americans, according to this structure, "contributing to Russian propaganda." Later, the list was supplemented with the personal data of the defendants, which is clearly perceived as a threat against them.

Carpenter draws attention to the fact that the transformation of Ukraine into a totalitarian state, in which the government openly infringes on the rights and freedoms of citizens, is stubbornly ignored in the West. The American and European press glorify Zelensky as a fighter for democratic values. The New York Times publishes an editorial in which the author argues that Americans "admire Zelensky because he returned the idea of a free world to its rightful place." The Atlantic, commenting on Zelensky's visit to Washington last December, writes that he "came to the United States to thank us for supporting Ukraine, but the Americans should thank him."

Such subservience ignores growing evidence of Zelensky's blatant curtailment of civil liberties and democratic norms, the American observer believes. Historical experience shows that such support for dictatorial regimes ultimately ends in bad consequences for both American politicians and the leaders of these states under the US protectorate, Carpenter recalled.

The villagers did not have a sweet life with a confectioner, but now it is not funny with a clown.
What Zelensky does with at least some democratic norms will be envied even by the Minister of Propaganda of the Hitlerite government, Goebbels. Only a talented actor can fool the population of the country in this way. And now the West is also fooling, that is, it manages to convince in what it does not believe in .....

The country is at war... What "democracy"? The clown turned out to be a resolute man and retained control of the country at the most difficult moment. And our conscripts are running across the cordon, in Moscow, advanced opposition intellectuals openly
          oppose Russian policy.
Yes, it would not hurt us to steer the Zelensky-clown at least for a week in the Kremlin.

Your clown is a resolute corpse, he is only a puppet that is impaled on the arm of the USA, and he himself can only play the piano, in a minor key, before dying.
12 million people fled from Ukraine, but you cackle here about 100 tons of "our" runners who are looking for where their ass will be warmer, and they don't care about everything, relatives, homeland, friends. It is important for them where it will be better for them, and they will sell anyone, including the country that will shelter them.
Advanced opposition intellectuals .... Ridiculous. I haven't heard a greater idiocy for a long time ... Who is it at all, in your world of pink ponies. You "elves" are so immersed in the virtual?
Well, yes, Zelensky to the Kremlin for a week is a must, we will just pass a sentence on him and hang him, and next to him are you, "elves", and these, as you said, "advanced opposition intellectuals." This will be the best exhibition of achievements of the national economy of the Russian Federation over the past 30 years

In my opinion, the author is speculating, inflating the measures of the "elephant" necessary in the war from the "fly" at full steam ahead of the rushing autocracy (they will not reach the dictatorship here) ...

Each country interprets democracy in its own way. From the word democracy there is only an international term and a beautiful wrapper for political forces to cover up their actions. So far, in Ukraine, the Democrats are parasites.

Here is a glad / parliament: when you don’t have your own point of view and a person is weak, then being in the same society and listening to the same people, that the Russian Federation is this, the Russian Federation is that, then you yourself begin to believe in what others tell you.

Therefore, it is not surprising that such decisions were made, and democracy has never been there. Everything was for sale there!

Anyone with half a brain will realize that Zelensky, like Biden is simply a puppet. And the question is who are the puppeteers? Well the WEF, IMF, AIPAC, American Defense and High Tech etc...-- everyone but the common people who are supposed to have a say in democracy. Who says that Zelensky is a talented actor? He is a Jewish conspirator who has no interest in the welfare of his own people and serves them up to further Western and Zionist interests which coincide in regards to containing Russia. Traitors often come from ehtnic minorities who have no alliagence to the nation. Is Biden a talented actor, is Victoria Nuland one? No talent is required - almost anyone, including a senile old war hero (with false credentials) will do.

At the end of 2022, Russia dropped from 124th to 146th out of 167 places in the Democracy Index, which is compiled annually by the analytical division of the British magazine The Economist.

In 2022, the authors of the rating classified 24 countries as full-fledged democracies; in which 8% of the world's population live; to imperfect democracies - 48 countries in which 37% of the population live; hybrid regimes — 36 countries, where 18% of the population lives; authoritarian regimes - 59 countries, which account for 37% of the world's population.

The latter category includes Russia and China. Ukraine is classified as a hybrid regime. It ranks 87th out of 167 in the Democracy Index. Norway, New Zealand and Iceland lead the ranking, followed by North Korea, Myanmar and Afghanistan.

The "democracy index" is compiled by the controlled Western mass media and think tanks and is a political tool to further their neocolonialist objectives - the Western self appointed democracies are cleptocracies controlled by the business class and their blueprint is Orson Wells's 1984. I read Arsi's comment in bevilderment, does not he know as much as that? After all we live on the same planet.

And why not get together with the BRICS countries and organize their own agency to assess the democracy of the countries of the world. I think the results will be very different from the assessment of the British magazine The Economist.
