The American company showed the capabilities of the new anti-drone laser HEL

A video has appeared on the network demonstrating the capabilities of the new HEL anti-drone laser system, designed for use against drones and small rockets. It was published by the American company Raytheon.

Complex of powerful laser weapons, developed by Raytheon Intelligence & Space, is designed to complement the lowest level of US military air defense. Information from the radars will be transmitted to the HEL laser installation.

The capabilities of the installation were tested earlier, in March 2022, at the White Sands test site in New Mexico, where the complex operated together with the short-range NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) air defense systems. During the tests, the installation managed to shoot down nine drones of Group 1 and Group 2 (weighing up to 25 kg).

The laser systems were developed at RI&S in Texas. The company claims that the installation can be used both on land and at sea, and in the air. This solution is well suited for air defense of military bases, airfields, stadiums and other facilities, both military and civilian.

The main advantages of the installation include hitting the target at the speed of light, no side effects after hitting the target, compactness and the ability to mount the installation on a variety of platforms, zero costs for shots, low repair requirements, and simplified logistics.

The company emphasizes that the laser system can deal with both single drones and a swarm. drones, quickly switching from one target to another. In addition, the installation can be used against small missiles.

Theoretically, it can be used against Geranek, one problem is guidance. And with the solution of this problem - no laser is needed, a machine gun is enough.
In short, again unnecessary sawing. As an experienced model - curious, but no more

      unnecessary sawing

Sawing is when domestic anti-drone guns for 2000000 rubles a piece are less effective than Chinese ones for 100000.

"Laser systems were developed at the RI&S facility in Texas" and tested in Texas .... then you can laugh .... especially "in the air, at sea, and on land" .... well, yes, advertising is the engine of trade

The video is not informative. And if the drone comes in from the side like a Lancet? According to the video, it took about 6 seconds to destroy the drone, but if it's a drone with a jet engine, maybe there won't be enough time?

And it is he who must keep the mark at one point, and if the attacked surface rotates, the effectiveness will be reduced to nothing. The laser has little power, "I don't believe it", when they show a mobile nuclear installation with a generator, then we can say that a real laser weapon on such a chassis is possible.

In fog, snow and rain, low clouds what will happen? And what is the effective range? In Texas, it can be dry and quite normal from a laser.
And what if rockets releasing an aerosol from rubbish or something like incendiary 9M22S fly by first? There will be so much smoke that the laser will lose all power. IMHO.

Lasers against drones are nothing new. The Turks already have them. But I'm sure the American version is much more powerful. Maybe the Chinese will be able to surpass the American. Any news on the Russian laser program? War can either speed up weapon research or slow it down.

The article is informative about nothing. Where today they do not develop such a technique? Well, maybe in Zimbabwe ... and even then. No performance characteristics are given. Neither power nor range.

    Than
H is more compact than MANPADS, but better than a drone - a fighter of other drones?
Hit a straight-flying target near - in how many seconds? And if the target simply rotates or also changes course during laser irradiation? And if there is a swarm in which stupid drones without explosives / cameras, but with anti-laser protection, will be the first?
Well, free shots are without depreciation and fuel, as I understand it?
