In the United States, military personnel began to collect parts of a Chinese balloon, which was previously shot down by a US military fighter aviation. An F-22 Raptor from the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, fired one AIM-9X Sidewinder missile, which hit the balloon. No one was hurt in the balloon crash.
Air Force General Glen D. VanHerke, commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, said debris recovery work had begun off the coast of South Carolina. Military personnel take precautions in the event of the presence of explosive or toxic substances.
According to the US military, some debris may go unnoticed due to ocean currents. Therefore, they urge local residents to report suspicious objects to the police if they find suspicious objects on the shore.
The research vessel USNS Pathfinder is involved in the search for the wreckage. It uses sonar to search for debris. An unmanned underwater vehicle also participates in the event, and the safety of the search is provided by boats and aircraft of the US Coast Guard.
The search teams include specialists from the Criminal Investigation Service of the Navy and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. Therefore, the operation to search for fragments of the ball is actually interdepartmental in nature.
