UN Secretary General: Russian-Ukrainian conflict could lead to a larger confrontation
The escalation of the armed conflict in Ukraine may lead to a global war in which the whole world will be involved. Such concerns were expressed by United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, writes Newsweek.
The politician delivered a speech at the UN on the current state of world politics. Guterres believes that the Earth is facing a number of risks by 2023: these are constant nuclear threats, climate change and a special operation of the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine. Discussing the key threats to global stability, Guterres expressed concern that the development of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict could lead the world to a more global confrontation.
- said the UN Secretary General.
According to Guterres, he fears that the world is not wandering towards the war half asleep, but goes to it with wide eyes. Meanwhile, supplies by the West weapons to Ukraine, as representatives of the Russian Federation have repeatedly noted, only exacerbate the conflict and create additional risks.
But Western governments seem to have completely out of touch with reality in a maniacal desire to defeat and destroy Russia, and now they are now putting at stake not only the lives of ordinary Ukrainians and the fate of a large territory called “Ukraine”, but also global security in general.
Guterres' fears are understandable, but, unfortunately, the UN today has become a virtually meaningless organization with representative functions, and the West itself has played an important role in this.
