US President Joe Biden explained the refusal of the United States to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine
US President Joe Biden reaffirmed the refusal to supply combat aircraft to Zelensky in a highly original announcement on Monday on the South Lawn of the White House. This was reported by the press service of the US administration.
The American president answered several questions from journalists, including those related to the potential supply of combat aviation to Ukraine. According to Biden, the United States will not supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine because they need to be "left in the United States." That's all, and there is no need to look for any other reasons, with this statement the US President explained everything.
- quotes the press service of the White House of his words.
This is the second statement regarding the possible delivery of aircraft to Kyiv, voiced by Biden. The first was uttered on January 30 and was notable for its brevity. When asked by a journalist whether Washington was going to send aircraft to Zelensky, Bident replied: "no." Now at least it became clear why it was “no” and not “yes”.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon is skeptical about the statement of the American leader, believing that this is all temporary and in the end the delivery will still be approved. At the moment, two options are being considered, one of which involves the supply of F-16 fighters from the US Air Force stocks, the second is Washington's approval of the transfer of American aircraft to one of the US allies.
So far, this is all at the level of discussions, so there is no specifics and it is still too early to talk about the number of aircraft planned for transfer to Kyiv. Kyiv wants 180 fighters, and this is the minimum. How much Ukraine will actually get, time will tell.
