In South Korea, they reported the discovery in their airspace of a balloon "belonging to Pyongyang"
The controversy surrounding the Chinese balloon, which was destroyed yesterday by the US Air Force off the coast of South Carolina, has not subsided yet, as a similar object was spotted in the Republic of Korea.
Last night, a balloon with a diameter of about 2 meters was detected in the airspace of South Korea in the Gyeonggi area near the border with the DPRK. The flying object that briefly violated the airspace belongs to Pyongyang, according to the Yonhap news agency.
At the same time, unlike their American allies, Seoul did not take "radical" measures against the "uninvited guest." The Republic of Korea Armed Forces said that given the size of the balloon, it is unlikely that it can be used for military purposes and is probably intended for studying the weather.
In addition, Seoul added that such balloons are used by artillerymen of a neighboring country to determine the direction of the wind. The South Korean military has allegedly repeatedly noticed such objects in the border areas of the DPRK.
As for the Chinese balloons, in addition to the object destroyed at sea off the coast of South Carolina, another one was found flying over Costa Rica and Venezuela.
Beijing has already acknowledged that the second balloon also belongs to China, but they also called it a weather balloon. Its appearance over Latin America was explained by the Chinese Foreign Ministry as a serious deviation from the course due to strong winds.
