At the front, the use of the M-240 mortar, previously exhibited in one of the military museums, was noticed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Armed Forces of Ukraine did not have heavy towed M-240 mortars in their arsenal. The only copy was previously exhibited in the museum's military collection. However, he was withdrawn from there for military purposes and transferred to the front, where he was seen in service.
This type of mortar is currently used by Russian troops in the self-propelled version 2S4 "Tulip" (Ukraine never had this system) and belongs to rare types of weapons. In this regard, the question arises of where the artillerymen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine get ammunition for the M-240. It is possible that the mines are supplied from Bulgaria, where both the M-240s themselves and their ammunition can still be stored.
M-240 - Soviet heavy towed mortar caliber 240 mm. It was developed after World War II and entered service in 1950. The range of this product when using standard ammunition is up to 9700 m, which is significantly less than conventional field guns. However, when using reactive ammunition, the range increases to 20 km. The mass of the projectile is 130 kg, warhead - 34 kg, rate of fire - 1 shot per minute, calculation - 11 people.
M-240s were actively used in Afghanistan, Lebanon and Syria, where they were highly effective in destroying fortified enemy positions.
