Western environmentalists demanded from the Belgian authorities to reduce imports of Russian LNG
A number of European environmental organizations, including Greenpeace, have criticized Belgium, demanding that the government of this country stop increasing the volume of Russian liquefied natural gas imports. This is reported by the publication Le Vif.
In 2022, despite the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions by the EU countries, the volume of LNG supplies from Russia to a number of European countries increased significantly. For example, Belgium is now supplied with a third more LNG than before, according to the Western press. For example, since February 24, 2022, 316 Russian vessels carrying gas and oil have passed through Belgian ports.
Environmental organizations believe that the Belgian government and the country's companies, by buying LNG from Russia, not only contribute to the replenishment of the Russian budget, but also worsen the environmental situation in Europe.
The alternative proposed by environmentalists is the transition of European countries to renewable energy sources, as well as thermal insulation of buildings. That is, "fanatics"-environmentalists offer Europeans to freeze, just not to use Russian gas.
The main demand of environmentalists to the Belgian leadership is to terminate the Fluxys contract with Russia, to develop a plan for abandoning Russian fossil gas.
These requirements fully fit into the strategy of the United States, which is trying to oust Russia as an LNG supplier from the European market. It has long been clear who is really behind the "green" organizations of European states and why these structures, which are not objective in their assessments of the situation, enjoy a disproportionately large influence on European politics.
