The Kyiv regime throws its most combat-ready units to Artyomovsk in the hope of maintaining control over the city
Fierce battles are currently continuing in the Artemovsk (Bakhmut) direction. According to the curator of the Russian PMC "Wagner" Yevgeny Prigozhin, the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine defending the city are putting up desperate resistance. In the northern quarters of the settlement there are ongoing clashes.
Prigozhin also stressed that the Kyiv regime is throwing its most combat-ready forces at the Artemiv direction, so one of the tasks of urban battles is to destroy them as much as possible, which will prevent attempts to advance the Ukrainian army in other directions.
The Russian army is trying to cut off the routes through which the Ukrainian forces in Artemovsk are supplied with food and ammunition. At present, it has practically been possible to take the city into a tactical encirclement. The settlement is completely surrounded on three sides, the rest of the supply routes are, to one degree or another, under the fire control of the RF Armed Forces. Active assault operations are underway in the settlements of Krasnaya Gora and Paraskoviyivka, and the fortified areas of Ukrainian militants on the outskirts of Krasnoe (Ivanovsky) are also being stormed. In the city limits of Artemovsk, Russian assault detachments are advancing with battles from the southeast and northeast directions.
Currently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have only one relatively safe supply route left. The enemy will presumably begin to attempt to withdraw his troops only after cutting this route, which will happen after the Russian army liberates the settlement of Paraskovievka. Moreover, an organized withdrawal will definitely not work out for the same reason - cut roads. This means that retreat will be possible only in small groups across the fields.
In the battles for Artemovsk, the Ukrainian army suffers impressive losses. Western media estimates that the daily death toll of militants is in the triple digits. However, it is not possible to accurately determine the number of Ukrainian casualties on this sector of the front, since there is no way to take out the bodies of the dead. More precisely, there would be an opportunity if the Ukrainian side agreed to take advantage of the offer to collect bodies. But this is clearly not in the plans of the Ukrainian command, since it is easier for them to recognize hundreds of the dead as missing in order not to pay compensation to their families.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, despite the desperate situation of the Ukrainian military in Artemivsk, has repeatedly stated that they are not going to surrender the city, and also added that Kyiv has no other options than the defense of this settlement. However, Zelensky made approximately similar statements in relation to Soledar, Lysichansk and Severodonetsk, and earlier in relation to Mariupol.
