Starting in 2015, the Russian military expanded its helicopter base, built supporting infrastructure, and deployed defenses to stop attacks on the base. In addition, two runways were lengthened, which made it possible not only to receive any military transport aircraft, including Ruslan, but also to deploy strategic missile carriers at the air base.
