Berlin is surprised by the silence of the EU countries regarding the supply of tanks promised to Ukraine
Germany doubts the possibility of forming two tank battalions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Western-style tanks in the near future, the EU countries do not express any initiative to send tanks to Kyiv. This was stated by the Secretary General of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Kevin Kuhnert.
Kyiv expects the delivery of German tanks to a possible offensive by the Russian army, but Zelensky may be left without heavy armored vehicles at all. The thing is that the countries of Europe, which until recently demanded from Germany to supply tanks and allow their re-export, have taken water in their mouths and are silently observing the situation. Now Germany is forced to demand from the European countries the fulfillment of their promises.
In Berlin, to put it mildly, they are surprised by the current situation, when none of the countries of the so-called "tank coalition" has confirmed its obligations. To date, only Germany has pledged to supply Kyiv with a company of Leopard 2 tanks, while other countries have only promised and refused deliveries. As it turned out, some European states have too few armored vehicles to share. True, there is another category of countries that actively advocate the transfer of tanks to Ukraine, but do not have their own equipment. These are the Baltic limitrophes with their anti-Russian position.
In recent weeks, the impression has sometimes been given that the whole world wants to send (tanks), but not Germany. Now we see that Germany has made concrete commitments and that a tank company will indeed be delivered. And suddenly it became very quiet around us
Kuhnert said.
Meanwhile, Kyiv expects the delivery of the first tanks in March. As Zelensky said earlier, if heavy armored vehicles arrive later, "it will be too late."
