Ukrainian military actively use the Delta situational awareness system

The Armed Forces of Ukraine use an information system in a combat situation. The Ukrainian military actively use the Delta situational awareness system.

According to Ukrainian media, this was reported in the defense department of Ukraine.

The information system receives data from spacecraft, aviation intelligence, UAVs, radars, surveillance cameras, chats and other sources. In order not to expose Delta to the risk of destruction by Russian missiles or hacker attacks, it was placed on a cloud service located outside of Ukrainian territory.

Any connected user can use the system data by logging into it from any device and passing verification. We are talking about the active Ukrainian military. Delta allows military personnel to monitor the situation on the battlefield in real time. "Delta" began to be used in the Ukrainian army for the first time back in 2018 during the hostilities against the Armed Forces of the Republics of Donbass.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24 last year. This was preceded by a request for help from the leadership of the recently recognized Russian Federation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics. And although Western countries did not directly participate in the Russian-Ukrainian armed conflict, they provide Kyiv with unprecedented military assistance, and also increased sanctions pressure on Russia.

. It is clear that the effectiveness of various technological, tactical and other methods is being tested ... this is a reserve for the future.
In general, the transition from high-profile statements to concrete deeds is necessary, important ...

If the data of the system can be used by any connected user, then what about the captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ??
There must be some kind of protection against this, because using smartphones and tablets of prisoners of war, it is enough just to find out any relevant information about the course of hostilities, well, to draw the appropriate conclusions ...

And this is not the worst. Worst of all, the data quality of such systems is very difficult to update. Either the life spans there are extremely low, but then there is not much sense, or, when attacked, there is a chance to shoot at your own. And if the object moves back and forth, then the likelihood of friendly fire increases even more.

This is relatively easy to resolve. Most likely, users are divided by access rights, such as administrator, operator, user, loser .. (admin, division commander, regiment commander, battalion commander, platoon commander, squad leader ..). Surely there is a system for updating passwords.

Well, it's akin to getting codes from radio operators. If a person is broken, then he is a traitor. Nothing changes here.

It's the 21st century outside. The prisoner's passwords automatically, or semi-automatically, cease to be valid. And access to information is limited by positions and powers.

Our answer is called ESU TK (Unified Tactical Control System). The system is overly ambitious - that's why its creation (not to mention implementation) is moving forward with a huge creak. In this case, things are much better with Armata than with ESU TK.

A convenient thing, however, the lads did not waste time in vain.
Well, do we have something similar? Only if it is terribly secret and only generals use an analogue of such a system = no.

Do not take it for a joke, there is a similar system. These are ad sites for the sale of apartments with a location on the map, for example Avito-Nedvizhimost. There objects (enemy armored vehicles) are designated as apartments, with addresses (coordinates). Each object has a description associated with it.
In the case of military use, such a system should have modems with secure (and not very secure) communication channels, tablets for displaying information and a system of access rights.
No miracles, to create such a system you need a problem statement and a small group of programmers. We have a problem with programmers, the literate and productive ones were systematically destroyed, and those close to the benefits are either not capable of creativity, or they run away and evade.

Projects to create this system are stalling not only with us (ESU TK), but also with the Americans Future Combat Systems and Brigade Combat Team Modernization. This is probably the largest computer program ever created by mankind, not to mention its hardware. According to the Ukrainian Delta, they say that it was created on American developments - such a light version of what has been implemented today.

The article there is quite voluminous, but I did not understand what the inoperability of the system was. Software, servers and user tablets are one thing, and modems, routers, communication channels and their bandwidth are completely different. The same communication channels can be duplicated, redundant and vary in bandwidth. That is, communication problems do not mean that the system is inoperable in principle.

Information is above all, and the one who owns it knows everything.
The fact that every military man knows and sees is not true, he sees only what he is supposed to see. for example, everyone sees the front line, but the availability of enemy or friendly means is already selective. Open any computer game and see how to organize screens for making decisions. Our Defense Ministry and General Staff will have to think about this for another 50 years.

The "cloud" cannot be broken in one motion. If you understand how the channel for receiving information works, then spoiling it with interference is probably the easiest way to spoil this system.

Surely a VPN is being created, and in the cellular network, access similar to APN access and a closed group of users, strangers do not go there. It is difficult to create interference for such systems, not entirely impossible, but difficult.

It all worked until starlink got sick. Now there is no longer so much Internet at the forefront. And without the Internet all this does not work. We still have a more interesting system. Offline maps, transmission of coordinates by radio and through live communication. Reliability!

Limited range, poor noise immunity, lack of protection against eavesdropping and artillery fire, high labor intensity of laying and masking the wire. There are more disadvantages than advantages. It's easier to buy Chinese digital radio stations with coding. However, this does not exclude such an ancient type of communication as a wired telephone.

We have a problem with programmers, the literate and productive ones were systematically destroyed, and those close to the benefits are either not capable of creativity, or they run away and evade.

The simplest thing is to tell that everything is bad with us in some area, often without even having to do with it. In fact, we have quite serious universities that train quite promising specialists. To evaluate this, it is enough to open the details of the training program for the specialties of interest. Due to the fact that the need for programmers is growing and they are in demand, the number of places in technical universities is increasing every year. It is a fact. The contests speak for themselves. There has been a noticeable increase in those wishing to enter technical universities. Passing score increased. These data are available upon request.
Regarding programmers, "close to the benefits." The specifics of the work of a programmer is very different from the work of a humanist. Roughly speaking, the program works or does not work, the intended effect is achieved or not. Those. here you can't get away with lengthy formulations. Therefore, if someone is unable to give a result in an acceptable time frame, he can be removed from the "goods" quite quickly.

You are describing an ideal, theoretical situation. In practice, there are many factors involved. There are amounts of funding, levels of access to work, support and changes.
As an example, I can cite simply diabolical problems in paying for utilities and especially educational services. There, either the service code is not in the directory, then it is impossible to repeat the payment with a comment, then auto payment is turned off, or something else. It seems like the banks are big, the salaries of programmers are good, and the system has been in a fever for many years and there is no end in sight.
And about working as a programmer, this topic is extensive, I can tell you a lot of things. Right now, I have no information about what is happening there in the field of wages and employment. And in the 90s and 2000s, specialists were reduced, the age limit was included, they were forced to lay off and leave the profession.

What can I say, one way or another I have been immersed in this topic since 1994 to this day. And there was an opportunity to feel, as they say, on their own skin. The specialization in the field of microelectronics was put an end to (the dashing 90s did their job), after which I had to go directly to programmers. There were (and are) IT companies and banks as well. I can’t say that working as a programmer in banks at that time was paid very well. Salaries in many IT companies are noticeably higher. I also know from my own experience that in many companies, not the last attention is paid to the issues of certification of employees. What he himself did in order to confirm competencies. As for the idea of technical universities, then, again, I had to be involved in this issue no earlier than last summer - my son decided to follow in the footsteps, as they say. Therefore, you have to be aware of the educational process. Something like this.

Again, this is abstract theorized reasoning. In reality, ruining any project, with the best programmers and designers, is easy. For example, to put at the head of the project, as a GUI, an incompetent capricious leader, say, an ambitious, unpredictable middle-aged woman. Take an obscure on-screen interface, like the icons of a car navigator. Set high requirements for communication channels. And voila, none of the most competent programmers will help, there will be neither salaries nor any completed project. And yes, by all means, along the way, to certify specialists and arrange certification in six months or a year.

In this regard, the advantage of the capitalist model is that investors will not risk their hard-earned money and tolerate an "incompetent capricious leader" of Balzac's age as the head of the project. The most brainy one will be put there, with a good resume and recommendations from MIT or Caltech.

A programmer, even a newly hired one, may already be certified. And certification in certain areas can be one-time, because. defined as life. Certification in general can be initiated by the specialist himself and without distraction from work. True certification of well-known companies and costs accordingly. Suppose a specialist came to you and provided a developer certificate, for example, to Oracle Corporation. In this light, you can count on the fact that this specialist is competent in his field and, based on this, you can entrust him with the scope of work within his competence. At the same time, the issue of certification of employees is not a chicanery, but in most cases a necessity and a big plus for the specialist himself. Often this affects the same tenders if you are planning a long-term cooperation, for example. And this implies more or less stable income and predictability.
This is not a theory, but a reality. I am writing to you about this, having almost thirty years of experience in this field and experience in large companies by world standards.
