The problem of combating commercial drones

While everyone was watching the Chinese Winnie the Pooh on the balloon, in this article I tried to analyze the possibility of neutralizing the threat from commercial quadrocopters not in the “as we would like” format, but specifically: how this can be done in our army and quickly.

Surprisingly, the RF Ministry of Defense noticed the threat from commercial quadrocopters before the start of the NWO and even took some actions against it.

And Murz, and many more, have anti-drone wunderwaffles running through the edge, which the troops have. But this was done in a strange way: no one knows how to use it, how it works - they don’t know, there are no instructions for the devices, and in general the thing is expensive - you’ll still break it. In fact, most often it just lay in a packing box, or was used as a maternity hospital for cats.

During a visit to the Russian military standing next to him, on some domestic issue, "Bereg" found in their headquarters a long-abandoned aluminum wardrobe trunk, on the lid of which a cat had recently given birth to kittens and the military knew nothing more about it. They said, they say, those whom we replaced left him here. What is there - we do not know, some kind of crap. Now Igor is the only person who can launch this system on the spot and use it for its intended purpose.

The second surprising point is that, paradoxically, the military on the more dangerous threat of commercial intelligence work drones they didn’t reflect strongly, but then they started dumping various explosives, and the quadrocopter with a grenade turned into a mega-weapon in the minds of the military.

At this stage, they began to somehow fight them, but the systemic problem was that the technical means of detection were, at best, a soldier with binoculars, and more often just the troops themselves, who saw the drone and reported to the rebts or freelance anti-drone units that appeared in some battalions. This, by the way, is well shown in the film "Best in Hell".

Enthusiasts

In some divisions, real enthusiasts of this business have appeared, and if we analyze their work, it turns out that the problem with commercial drones is completely solvable, and with little bloodshed.

1. No need to create separate divisions for this. For them, we simply do not have competent officers, so the first ones that come to hand and, let's say, not very sensible, will be appointed.

2. We already have a unit that is responsible for the air defense of the battalion and company - this is an anti-aircraft missile platoon with MANPADS, and so, you just need to include two additional soldiers in each of its squads: one with an analyzer, the second with an anti-drone gun. Experience shows that these funds are more than enough to cover the mouth.

3. In the future, when our defense industry in terms of means of combating commercial drones reaches at least the Turkish level, then it is possible to include a fourth squad with integrated means of detecting and suppressing battalion-level drones in the platoon. However, our army and industry already have separate examples of this, but to a greater extent this concerns means of destruction or suppression, and not detection.

All this will ensure the average level efficiency:

• Breakthroughs of the perimeter by reconnaissance quadrocopters - on average, no more than one per day;

• dumping the target load by impact quadrocopter - on average, zero per day.

The key factor is the transfer of means of combating drones from the EW troops to the military air defense. Unlike the Rebovites, the military personnel have a systematic understanding of exactly what tasks are solved when covering the units and what should not happen.

Moreover, this will allow you to do everything quickly, since you only need to retrain platoon commanders a little at officer training camps.

It would be a huge mistake to transfer anti-drone rifles to companies, and even more so to platoons. Neither motorized rifle nor tank, nor artillery officers have comprehensive knowledge of defense against an air enemy and they will not be able to train operators of anti-drone guns, as well as organize their use. As a result, a profanation will turn out: that there seems to be equipment, and periodically some drones are shot down, but there is no comprehensive countermeasures.

I must say right away that this is not a panacea for all RPVs, but this will force the enemy to greatly reduce the use of commercial-type quadrocopters, and to rely more on the use of aircraft-type RPVs, which are much smaller.

Now with regard to the OPC.

It is extremely useful for them to learn the meaning of the word “ecosystem” and present not individual, albeit “unparalleled” samples, but a set of means for detecting and suppressing / destroying drones. Moreover, a complex based on different physical principles, since each of them is good in its own way, but also has certain limitations. For example, a radar provides a longer range, but its effectiveness is reduced for small targets. Lidar compensates for this disadvantage, but within a shorter range. Therefore, all detectors must be used in an integrated manner.

Good news

To end on a positive note, I note that after 11 months of the war, the enemy began to fix the complexity of the work of some anti-drone units of the Russian army.

The problem of combating commercial drones
is that at the level of the state of the Russian Federation there is no such problem yet (((
    Solution - spit good
A task is set, a competition is announced with a prize fund of at least 100 million winners - the development period is 1 month, the production version is created in 100 days - in six months NONE !!! a commercial drone will not reach our positions drinks For a long time, everything is in experimental specimens, it’s just that no one cares about this (((

The cunning Chinese have saturated the theater with firewood from both sides and are calmly waiting for them to start buying up means of struggle. All of them have been there for a long time. A complete complex in the region of 2,5-3 million for ours.
The question is really about interest and ... In the power supply of this complex, even a kilometer from the front line. To him, after all, a generator and a constant catch of fuel will be needed. Yes, and it is periodically necessary to carry it along the front, that 155 did not arrive.

All commercial drones are being finalized taking into account the use of electronic warfare. Naturally, who is into what much.

since you described it doesn't work in any country. The question is not in prototypes, but in the OShS, tactics, personnel, responsibility, etc.
The fighting devices themselves are not the main problem.

I take it you didn't read the article. wink
But there, at the very beginning, an example of the EW station "Kupol" was given, which was developed, produced and supplied to the troops. And upon arrival in the troops, it was simply abandoned - due to the lack of trained personnel and a technical malfunction. To eliminate which, strangers had to do the impossible - contact the manufacturer (Concern Avtomatika) through their VK page. And - voila:
The manufacturer got in touch, an agreement was reached on the prompt replacement of non-working equipment with serviceable equipment and on further consultations on its combat use.

And the worst thing is that "Dome" is just a portable anti-UAV complex! belay

And this is not the only example. The same Murza mentioned several times that expensive equipment is not issued to the fighters and is stored in warehouses or in the KShM - because no one wants to be responsible for its inevitable loss by personnel, having gone through seven circles of hell in parallel with the write-off of entrusted property.
On the other hand, equipment is purchased at fuck off - not in a complete set, without consumables. And then it is stored in violation of storage regulations (more precisely, in compliance with officially approved regulations ... designed for the past generation).

I am not an expert, but even I understand that nothing more sophisticated and insidious technology has been invented today. And the point is not in the drones themselves, but in their number. And in the functions assigned to them. Here is reconnaissance, and strike power, and scattering all sorts of rubbish on the ground. I wonder how things are with drones in China?

Judging by the fact that they buy drones in China, everything is fine with them there. hi

Hello, what are the prospects for the market for drones in Russian agriculture. It is mainly used for pesticide spraying, but also used for animal and plant protection control.

Yes. The author seems to be the first who noticed the elephant. Everything is there, and has been for a long time, just fiddling with it on the ground - no one has come up against it.
And so - you will have to change the staffing structure, the war in Ukraine showed both the need for Mavico-shaped drones - and the need to fight them. Well, to our consolation, everyone slept through this trend - from China to the USA, by the way, they have neither Maviks in service, nor anti-drone rifles in each company either, this is hello to all-weapons

The author is well done, in any case he is the first to propose organizational measures such as the level of subordination.

        proposes organizational measures

proposes to assign duties to the battalion air defense, and to teach in courses ... Who will teach? Experience from enthusiasts at the forefront, in platoons. The most successful of them should share their methods of combating drones. Who has systemic thinking and the gift of words - will write a generalizing manual

And it depends not only on the defense industry. Remember the epic of the same Murza about communication: the defense industry made an integrated closed communication system, the Armed Forces purchased only one component from it - terminal personal radios. Simply put, it's like buying and distributing smartphones to fighters, but forget about base stations - let them build a network "from mobile to mobile" on built-in "blue teeth" (and say thank you that it's not on IR).

It turned out that Russian guns for 2 rubles are inferior to Chinese guns for 000-000 rubles, in terms of the effectiveness of suppressing communication between the drone and the remote control, but more beautiful)))

Voenkorr Filatov. About how these guns were compared at the training ground. To whom is war, to whom the budget has been cut. So we will win.

And now Mangushev, who actively promoted the possibility of cheap "dronoboys", and moved successfully - that's all. Peace be upon him.

additionally include two soldiers: one with an analyzer, the second with an anti-drone gun

Just today I listened to the performance of the late "Coast" on the "dronitsa"
    His theses:
    1. 3 soldiers and 2 guns.
    2. In addition to this, you need a GPS signal jammer.
    3. Taki should be given on a regular basis, and yes, trained people should be given, and not just transferred equipment.
    4. From the discussion: Anti-drone guns and analyzers are, of course, good, but firstly, these devices should be automated, and secondly, they should be taken out separately from the calculation, because the guns themselves "shine like Christmas trees" their location is found and they may well work out enemy artillery-mortars as a priority target.

Bereg was one of the few who rummaged around in the subject and was able to create acceptable equipment for anti-drone confrontation for adequate money. On his site, the Ukrainians tried not to meddle too much. It’s a pity he didn’t have time to implement what he started, namely the creation of a bunch of several points into a network, which increased the coverage and effectiveness of protection at the battalion level. His group of Surricates, hopefully will finish what they started. I would like to wait for the discovery of information regarding his death. A very muddy story.
