US press: European officials did not give Zelensky the desired reward in the form of accelerated Ukraine's membership in the EU
The Western press analyzes the results of the EU-Ukraine summit. Ukraine's main expectation from this summit, as previously reported, was the expectation that European officials would set specific dates for the country's admission to the European Union. But that did not happen. Different representatives of the EU bureaucracy named different periods of time. The minimum of them is “in about 5 years”. The Kyiv regime itself has declared its desire to join the European Union by 2025.
The American edition of The New York Times writes that the European Union, against the backdrop of promises to "even more actively help Ukraine, has muffled voices about its entry into the EU."
From the material of American journalists:
The publication notes that no specifics were expressed on this issue, and the phrase “the entry may take place in a few years” did not give confidence to the Kyiv leadership.
NYT:
American experts in other media express the opinion that all these detentions and dismissals of Ukrainian officials were “timed” precisely for the Ukraine-EU summit. But now that Kyiv has been given to understand that it’s better not to think about membership yet, the designated process of “fighting corruption” may again come to naught, even despite attempts by American auditors to find out the purpose of Ukrainian spending of previously allocated aid.
US journalists drew attention to the fact that in the final document adopted at the summit, the word "progress" in relation to the "fight against corruption" disappeared. It has been replaced with a more streamlined term: "effort."
