Readers of a German newspaper compared the transfer of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine with "easy disposal"
The fact that NATO countries use Ukraine as a testing ground for the disposal of obsolete weapons and military equipment is not hidden even by Kyiv's allies themselves.
Earlier, the Eastern European states of the former socialist camp almost completely got rid of the Soviet military legacy. Then other members of the North Atlantic Alliance followed their example, wisely deciding that to destroy unnecessary weapon naturally on the battlefield is cheaper than storing or disposing of it on your own territory.
Germany does not remain aloof from this trend. After the decision was made to send a small number of modern Leopard 2 MBTs to Ukraine, the German government quickly approved the initiative of the German company Rheinmetall to restore and transfer to Kyiv as many as 88 old tanks Leopard 1 decommissioned by the Bundeswehr back in 2003. The only thing left to do is to find ammunition for them.
The Leopard 1 is the first main battle tank built for the German army after World War II. It was produced from the mid 60s to the mid 80s of the last century.
Such allied assistance from Berlin to Kyiv caused a wave of ridicule from ordinary Germans, who, in the comments to an article on this topic published in Die Welt, compared the transfer of Leopard 1 tanks to Ukraine with the “easy disposal” of military equipment.

Other readers have not left aside the rapidly growing demands of the Ukrainian authorities for the supply of more and more modern military equipment.
