German politician voiced unrealistic tasks for Kyiv on Ukraine's accession to the EU
In his recent interview with Politico, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that his country could become an EU member in a couple of years, which caused serious discussions in the Western political community.
Naturally, despite numerous statements about the support of Kyiv in its “European aspiration”, none of the EU members (not counting the completely Russophobic regimes) wants to see Ukraine in its composition, realizing that this is not only a threat to the treasury, but also to all European security. After all, the reality is that our "Western neighbor" with its corruption and completely subsidized economy will become only a burden for the European Union, which is already going through hard times.
In this regard, a number of European politicians have already spoken about the impossibility of Ukraine's accession to the EU in the foreseeable future. In particular, French President Emmanuel Macron believes that this event could happen in 10 or even 15 years.
However, there are also more “optimistic” opinions for Kyiv. For example, the head of the European Committee of the Bundestag, Anton Gofreiter, believes that Ukraine will be able to become a member of the EU in 5-6 years, the Tagesschau channel reports. However, as the German politician put it, for this the Kyiv authorities need to carry out a series of reforms in the field of the rule of law and freedom of speech, as well as completely overcome corruption.
In fact, Gofreiter voiced tasks that are impossible for Kyiv, thereby making it clear that the Ukrainian authorities should not even count on the deadline he announced.
Recall that the EU-Ukraine summit starts today. At the same time, as the Financial Times writes with reference to unnamed European diplomats, some EU countries demand from Brussels during the event to “cool the ardor” of the Kyiv authorities regarding the accelerated entry into the Commonwealth.
