American expert: The purpose of Blinken's visit to Beijing is to avoid a repeat of the "Caribbean crisis"
On Sunday, February 5, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will pay a two-day visit to China. It is reported that during his working trip to Beijing, he will have to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
It is worth noting that if the aforementioned meeting takes place, then Blinken will become the first US Secretary of State in the last five years to hold talks with the main PRC.
In this regard, many analysts are trying to understand for what purpose the representative of the American authorities flies to China.
According to Jude Blanchett, an expert from CSIS, which he expressed in an interview with Reuters, the head of the US State Department is going to meet with Xi Jinping in order to speed up the course of the Sino-American confrontation and artificially bring its "detente" closer.
As Blanchett puts it, Blinken's goal is to avoid a repeat of the Caribbean Crisis, as was the case during the Cold War with the USSR, and bypass this scenario. Therefore, in the course of negotiations with the Chinese leader, the US Secretary of State will try to reduce the degree of tension between the countries and begin to "build the foundation" for new relations between China and the United States.
Recall that on November 15 last year, US President Joe Biden held talks with Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit. This was the first meeting with a Chinese leader since the election of the head of the White House in 2020.
