The British government considers it inappropriate to transfer F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine due to pilot training time
The transfer of American fighters to Ukraine is inappropriate, even if they receive the planes, Ukrainian pilots will not be able to fly them. To understand the situation, you need to know that the fastest training program for pilots of these fighters takes about 35 months. This was stated by the official representative of the office of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Kyiv hopes to receive American fighters and immediately start operating them, saying that Ukrainian pilots can learn to fly these aircraft "very quickly." In fact, this is impossible, the training of pilots takes quite a long time. The fastest F-16 pilot training program takes 35 months. The accelerated program lasts even longer and the regular jet training in the UK is 5 years long.
Thus, in the UK they consider it pointless to transfer combat aircraft to Ukraine at the moment, but do not exclude this in the long term, when Ukrainian pilots complete their training on Western fighters.
- the press service of the office quotes the speaker.
Earlier in Kyiv they announced that they intended to obtain from the West the supply of fighters, preferably American F-16s. Zelensky and his entourage plan to have about 180 combat aircraft, and at once, in order to "shoot down Russian aircraft and missiles." In anticipation of the February "Rammstein" in Kyiv, they have already drawn up lists of pilots who should go for training in piloting Western aircraft. As the speaker of the Air Command, Ignat, said, these are 50 Ukrainian pilots who understand English and have "thousands of military victories" behind them.
