“Why not at the front?”: In Ukraine, a university teacher was punished for refusing to switch to Ukrainian
At one of the universities in Kyiv, a Russian-speaking teacher asked students why they and their parents, being Ukrainian-speaking patriots, did not volunteer for the front. This happened after they demanded from the teacher that she conduct classes not in Russian, but in Ukrainian.
Such a message appeared in the Telegram channel "Politics of the Country" (Ukraine).
- the teacher asked the students quite a logical question.
The heroine of this language scandal was Nina Ivanchenko, Candidate of Economic Sciences, who until recently taught at the Kiev National University of Trade and Economics (KNTEU), where she was an assistant professor of statistics and econometrics.
Now the management of the educational institution fired her. Actually, hardly anyone can be surprised by the fact that in Ukraine a university teacher who refused to switch to the Ukrainian language was punished as severely as possible. Like true "patriots", the students made an audio recording of the teacher's statement in order to convey it to the leadership of the educational institution.
Ivanchenko was immediately fired. It is not known under what specific article this was done, but the administration stated that the reason was the use of the language of the "aggressor" by the teacher and violation of the norms of the teacher's behavior.
Shortly before this, Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the Ukrainian Language, proposed a complete ban on the use of the Russian language in universities, and this applies not only to the educational process, but also to students' communication with each other.
