New Russian territories became part of the Southern Military District
The new Russian territories became part of the Southern Military District, this follows from the new map of the Ministry of Defense, posted on the website of the military department.
Donetsk and Luhansk republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions were included in the Southern Military District, as well as Crimea in 2014. The command of the Southern Military District is already forming units and formations that, after the end of the special military operation, will be deployed on this territory on a permanent basis. Created in the republics in 2014, the 1st and 2nd Corps of the People's Militia became part of the troops of the Southern Military District under the names: 1st Donetsk Army Corps and 2nd Guards Luhansk-Severodonetsk Army Corps. Volunteer detachments are being formed on the territory of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to increase the size of the Russian Armed Forces to 1,5 million people to ensure the security of the state and protect the new subjects that have become part of our country. One of the tasks of this decision is the formation of self-sufficient interspecific groupings of troops in new territories.
In general, within the framework of this initiative, two new military districts will appear in the Ministry of Defense - Moscow and Leningrad, or rather, they will be restored. A new army corps will be formed in Karelia, three new divisions will appear in the Ground Forces, the Airborne Forces will be replenished with two air assault divisions. Seven motorized rifle brigades in the Western, Central and Eastern military districts, as well as the Northern fleet, will be reorganized into divisions. The combat component of the Navy, Aerospace Forces and Strategic Missile Forces will also be strengthened.
All large-scale changes, including an increase in the number of the RF Armed Forces, will not take place all at once, but during 2023-2026.
