Spain compensates for the inability to supply Leopard 2A4 tanks by sending Kyiv American M113 armored personnel carriers

Spain cannot hand over German weapons to Ukraine in the near future Tanks, but as compensation will give the Ukrainian army American M113 armored personnel carriers. Europa Press writes about it.

Spain turns on the back, announcing the impossibility of delivering even the promised number of tanks to Kyiv because of their technical condition. So those four or six Leopard 2A4s, which were discussed in the Spanish Ministry of Defense, will not go to Ukraine in the near future, they will have a long repair, complicated by the lack of necessary spare parts and components. In the future, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, of course, will receive them into service, but there is no forecast yet when it will be.

In order to somehow compensate for such news, Spain will replace the tanks with American M113 armored personnel carriers. Armored vehicles will go to Ukraine at the beginning of next week. In total, Kyiv will receive 20 armored personnel carriers, some of them will be in the self-propelled mortar version. This information was confirmed by Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles.

In general, the Spaniards have rather big plans for the supply of tanks to the Kyiv regime, we are talking about 53 Leopard 2A4, but this is in the best possible scenario. This is the amount of German heavy armored vehicles that has been in storage by the Spanish army for 10 years. What technical condition they are in is still unknown, but in Madrid they plan to gradually remove the equipment from storage and carry out repairs. The process is slow and quite expensive.

In August last year, Spain already announced the start of sending 20 (twenty) M113 tracked armored personnel carriers removed from conservation to Ukraine. There is no information about whether the equipment was delivered to Ukrainian territory, but it was reported about the preparatory work for shipment.

Well, the Spaniards, well, hacks - instead of high-quality scrap metal in large quantities, they slip some kind of cans to metallurgical plants. This is not how business is done! am

Scrap metal of course. But it would be better not to send anything. It would all be over sooner.

Thick sides and viscous armor showed themselves well under shelling. The pieces are holding up well. The M113 itself is very hardy, passable and in demand.

At the same time, the Spaniards hand over a mobile battery of mortars. The first such machines came from one of the Baltic countries. Initially, the Ukrainian side showed no interest at all. But as soon as I tried it, now they are asked from everyone (Germany, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy). The essence is simple - there is a mortar inside - the calculation is sheltered from fragments of close gaps. Kropiva allows you to become attached to the terrain and fire from virtually short stops. Threw 3-5 minutes and left immediately. Catching such mortars is very difficult.
Sending a batch of M113 with mortars for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

How it looks like in action.

Well, here's the Spanish version with 120.

After Germany agreed to supply Leopards, some countries began to roll the sleigh back.

As long as nothing rolls. It's just that the initial loud announcement moves into the implementation phase, which has its own nuances. The plans and program on that Ramstein are until the summer, and for certain types in general for a year.

Kyiv will receive 20 armored personnel carriers
I can’t give you a fur coat today, I need it myself, but please, a sash. Although 20 armored personnel carriers can be armed with two companies. Today, the European countries that are members of NATO suddenly realized with horror that they themselves have problems with equipment - something has broken, something has been in long-term storage for 10 or more years and, as you can understand, it was poorly or not timely serviced. They probably forgot that equipment that is in long-term storage is also required to undergo maintenance at certain periods. But how, then, to fight with Russia, which has so far unofficially declared war?

To say and change shoes - the manner of the West to conduct a dialogue, EU partners and those interested, this also applies. Scholz will not let you lie.

In total, in the mid-1990s, the Spaniards received 108 well-used Leopard-2s. For rent. Then they were bought out at a bargain price (somewhere around 150 thousand euros). They were removed from service in 2012. They wanted to convert them into either engineering vehicles or self-propelled mortars, but the plans never came to fruition. For the first time, the Spanish military considered the possibility of transferring part of the "leopards" back in the summer, but they refused because of their poor technical condition ... Now, after the banderlogs were felt at the feet of the "white master", they decided to try to do something. Now 5 Leopards-2 have been transferred to the Santa Barbara company (a factory in Seville) and they are trying to revive them ...

That this is junk, it was immediately clear. But "Santa Barbara" personally got me through wassat

These Leopards they did not repair on purpose. They carried proposals to all Peru and Indonesia. Trying to sell them there, dumping them, and already repair and modernize them for the customer. In Indonesia, they were rolled by the Germans, but in Peru they didn’t find any money and left it as it is (well, without tanks, the army, in the sense).

Guys, if you do not hand over this aluminum to the collection points, then our military will do it a little later! Choose who will earn on it.

it’s clear and a no brainer that no one will give new tanks, knowing that these tanks will not live there for a long time.
Since they are broken, it means that the tanks also have expensive repairs, I think after the first battles, when they start to burn, Europe will generally refuse these tanks
