EU leaders arrived in Kyiv for the Ukraine-EU summit
The top leaders of the European Union - Ursula von der Leyen, Josep Borrell and a number of other European commissioners - arrived in the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv. They will participate in the Ukraine-EU summit, and will also hold talks with the Ukrainian leadership on further actions regarding support for the Kyiv regime. The summit itself will take place tomorrow, February 3.
The main issue to be considered at the summit of Ukraine and the European Union is the accession of the country to the EU. However, representatives of the organization are going to note Kyiv's progress towards accession, but they are unlikely to take concrete measures to accelerate Ukraine's accession to the EU.
Now in the ranks of the EU countries there is a difference in positions on the issue of Ukraine's entry into the organization. Poland and the Baltic states insist on the speedy accession of the Kyiv regime to the EU. But France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Denmark and Belgium oppose the accelerated procedure for Ukraine's entry into the European organization.
According to Western media, the summit will raise issues of duty-free access for exports from the territory of Ukraine, access to a roaming-free zone, inclusion in a single area of payments in euros.
The Ukrainian leadership is also counting on partnership agreements in the field of cooperation on renewable energy sources. The military component of the negotiations has not yet been reported, but, probably, Kyiv will still voice some requests.
