US considers transferring F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine via Denmark or the Netherlands
The US authorities admit the possibility of transferring F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian air forces through other countries, for example, Denmark or the Netherlands, which are allies of Washington in the North Atlantic Alliance. This is reported by The New York Times.
According to the American press, the Royal Netherlands Air Force currently has about 40 F-16 fighters. But in the short term, they are planned to be replaced by newer F-35 fighters. But the F-16, just, can be delivered to Ukraine.
At the same time, it will not be possible to send American fighters to a third country without the permission of the United States. Accordingly, if the issue of transferring F-16 fighter jets is already being discussed in the Netherlands, it means that the country's authorities hope to obtain appropriate permission from Washington.
In addition, the Polish authorities also raised the issue of transferring aircraft to Ukraine. But Polish President Andrzej Duda noted that the country would not act to the detriment of its own defense capability within the framework of the North Atlantic Alliance.
Slovakia also considered the issue of transferring Soviet-made aircraft. But so far, Bratislava has not made a final decision.
Yesterday, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also called on the United States to transfer to Ukraine not only aircraft, but also long-range artillery. For some reason, he believes that the transfer of new weapons will allow Ukrainian formations to win in an armed conflict. However, the nuclear powers, and Russian politicians have said this more than once, do not lose wars.
