The Lithuanian authorities proposed to replace Russian with Polish as a second foreign language in the country's secondary schools

In Lithuania, it is proposed to replace the study of Russian in secondary schools as a second foreign language with Polish. This point of view was voiced by Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte on the air of Znad Wilii radio station.
Currently, Lithuanian secondary schools teach Russian as a second foreign language. However, Simonyte argues that if Russian is replaced by Polish, it would be a good option for students. As the Prime Minister of Lithuania noted, she hopes that students will choose Polish instead of Russian.
It is not very clear, however, what prospects for the Lithuanian youth are the study of the Polish language instead of Russian. Indeed, in Poland, hardly anyone is waiting for Lithuanian citizens in any other role, except as low-paid guest workers. But even this niche will now be occupied by people from the western regions of Ukraine.
Interestingly, the head of the Lithuanian government acknowledged the shortage of teaching staff who speak languages other than Russian. That is, there are simply no teachers in Lithuania who could teach Polish, not Russian.
However, Vilnius can theoretically solve this issue by recruiting teachers on a contract basis in Poland itself. But the question is, in what language will they communicate with their students? Indeed, practically no one studies the Lithuanian language in Poland.
