Mobile air defense groups engaged in countering drones intensified in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
26
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have activated mobile air defense groups, whose activities are aimed mainly at countering unmanned aerial vehicles. On the footage published by the Ukrainian media, one can see the equipment and the basic principle of operation of such groups.
The group consists of several military personnel stationed in vehicles: a small truck and a pickup truck. The task of one of them is to work with a searchlight, with the light of which they try to identify a flying drone if one approaches. Another soldier at this moment is behind the machine gun, ready to fire at the target. Most often these are heavy machine guns, for example, KPVT or DShK.
Reportedly, the shooting of this particular air defense group was carried out in the south of the Odessa region, in the coastal zone. Such groups have recently become more active in the border regions of Ukraine.
The use of a searchlight consumes a large energy resource, so the operating time of such a mobile group at night is hardly long if it is far from the location of the unit or stationary power sources.
How many aircraft were shot down in this way is not reported to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Although even if they had reported, it would hardly be possible to believe the data presented by the enemy, especially considering that they are still discussing how many “dozens of Russian planes were shot down by the ghost of Kyiv”.
