According to the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan, the authorities of the island recorded a high activity of aircraft and ships of the Chinese army near their borders - in the amount of 34 and 9 units, respectively. The information was published on the website of the military department of the country.

Taiwan's defense ministry said in a statement.

As the ministry added, the island's armed forces are closely monitoring the situation. The Air Force, Navy, as well as Taiwan's air defense crews are on alert. From the southwestern direction, 20 aircraft and UAVs of the Chinese army entered the air defense identification zone. Basically, as specified in the statement, we are talking about anti-submarine aircraft Y-8, drones BZK-005 and BZK-007, along with J-16, J-11, J-10 and Su-30 multirole fighters.

It should be noted that the activity of the PLA in the water area near the island increased significantly after the visit of the then Speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi in August last year to Taipei. Beijing regarded that visit as a provocation on the part of official Washington. China also expressed its dissatisfaction with the telephone conversation between newly elected Czech President Peter Pavel and Taiwan's chief of staff Tsai Ing-wen. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stressed that the country considers this step as interference in its internal political affairs.

Recall that earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Beijing would do everything possible to promote the reunification of the country with the island through diplomatic channels, without excluding, however, the use of force to return the province to China.
