Speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: 200 fighters will be required to ensure the security of Ukraine's airspace
Speaking on the air of the French TV channel La Chaîne Info, the speaker of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, made a statement that to ensure the airspace of Ukraine, it will need 200 fighters. As the military official clarified, the country needs to create 5 tactical brigades aviation, which will be armed with one type of Western-style multifunctional aircraft.
Ignat said.
At the same time, as he noted, Ukraine needs to protect its airspace both in wartime and in peacetime, since it is one of the largest countries on the European continent. According to him, the aviation grouping of Russia and Belarus is 5 or even 6 times superior to Ukrainian aviation, and, as he admitted, Ukraine is also inferior to them in terms of technology.
As the speaker of the Air Force added, it will obviously not be possible to get everything at once, because for this there is still a lot of work to be done, which consists in preparing all the necessary airfield infrastructure, flight crews, aviation engineers, which will allow the process of rearmament to be gradually carried out with new types of equipment.
Yuriy Ignat also touched upon the current state of affairs in the Air Force of Ukraine: according to the data provided by him, they now have 11 brigades, of which 1 is training, 3 are transport, 1 is assault, 1 is bomber, and 5 more are fighter. The last aircraft that entered service with the country was the Su-27. At the same time, Ignat did not specify how many aviation units these brigades of the Ukrainian Air Force have left today, if it is literally begging for NATO fighters.
Recall that, contrary to all the ambitions of the Kyiv regime, US President Joe Biden previously stated that Washington would not send American-made F-16 fighter jets to Kyiv.
