“Perhaps there was a collision”: Su-30 and Mirage 2000 fighters crashed in India
In the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, located in the central part of the state, two fighters of the country's Air Force, the Su-30 and Mirage 2000, previously purchased from Russia and France, respectively, crashed early this morning.
- noted in the publication Indian Express.
Both aircraft took off from the Gwalior air base, where military exercises were being conducted. According to the Ministry of Defense, as a result of the incident, two Su-30 pilots ejected and received minor injuries, the third died (from a single-seat Mirage 2000).
In India, accidents and disasters related to the military equipment of the Air Force regularly occur. In its latest report on this issue, made in December 2021, the government told Parliament that seven aircraft of the country's air force had crashed over the past two years.
The high accident rate is associated with inadequate maintenance of the combat aviation. Insufficient funding for repairs leads to untimely delivery of spare parts (most of which are purchased abroad, from manufacturers of aircraft operated in India), but many aircraft continue to perform combat missions with faulty units.
