The Minister of Defense of Spain announced the timing of the supply of Leopard tanks to Ukraine
Tanks German-made Leopards, which are at the disposal of the Spanish armed forces, will be transferred to Ukraine in the spring of 2023. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of Spain Margarita Robles.
As the head of the Spanish military department noted, the transfer of tanks to Ukraine is not a set of deliveries of armored vehicles by individual states, but coordinated and purposeful actions. According to Robles, none of the countries that have decided to supply tanks to the Kyiv regime carries out these actions on its own, but is in constant interaction with NATO allies.
The approach of European states to the issue of the supply of tanks boils down to the fact that their shipment will take place in the spring of 2023. But the Minister of Defense of Spain could not name the exact and even approximate number of tanks intended for transfer to Kyiv.
Before this statement, Margarita Robles announced the participation of Spain in the process of supplying Leopard tanks to Kyiv. She also stressed that the authorities of the country will also organize the training of Ukrainian tank crews.
Back in July 2022, Madrid considered the possibility of transferring 40 Leopard 2 tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but then permission from the German authorities was not received. Then Spain reduced the number of tanks it was ready to hand over to the Kyiv regime to 10 units. Then Robles herself admitted that the Spanish tanks were in a "deplorable state."
Note that the Spanish army, according to open sources of information, has approximately 347 Leopard tanks. This is more than any other European country, so it is possible that Spain will play an important role in supplying Ukraine with these combat vehicles.
