The Cambodian authorities called the training of Ukrainian sappers a "humanitarian act" and refused military support to Kyiv
The government of Cambodia called the training of sappers for the Ukrainian army a "humanitarian act" and stated that it was impossible to provide Ukraine with any military support. Moreover, the Cambodian authorities also announced their readiness to train Russian sappers as well.
According to the Cambodian edition Khmer Times, according to the head of the government of the country Hun Sen, Cambodia did not provide any military assistance to the Ukrainian army, and the training of Ukrainian sappers is a purely humanitarian act.
The Cambodian Prime Minister also announced that Cambodia is ready, if requested, to train the military of any country in the world, including Russia, to clear mines.
Currently, Ukrainian sappers are being trained on the basis of the Cambodian mine action center, the necessary technical support for this is provided by the Japanese government.
Ukrainian sappers are trained in the skills necessary for demining, as well as the use of equipment designed to neutralize various types of explosive devices.
In addition, the Cambodian authorities sent three of their specialists to Ukraine in December last year to assist the Ukrainian armed forces in clearing territories of mines and training local sappers.
However, to provide Ukraine with any support that goes beyond the humanitarian projects in the field of mine clearance, the Cambodian authorities refuse.
