Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration discussed the situation around Pridnestrovie with the Russian Ambassador to Moldova
A meeting was held between the Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebryan and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov, at which the parties discussed the situation around Pridnestrovie. They exchanged views on the negotiation process between Chisinau and Tiraspol. In the second half of February, a new working meeting will be held in Tiraspol with the participation of political representatives.
During the conversation, the Moldovan diplomat voiced the position of official Chisinau, based on the search for a peaceful solution to the Transnistrian settlement by respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
The Russian Embassy in Moldova also confirmed the meeting between Serebrian and Vasnetsov. As the diplomatic mission added, the parties noted their commitment to further maintaining the 5+2 format (Moldova, Transnistria, the OSCE, Russia, Ukraine, as well as the EU and the US as observers) as an indispensable multilateral dialogue platform. What kind of participation in this process of Ukraine can be discussed today is a separate question.
The topic of the Transnistrian conflict was also touched upon by the President of the Republic, Maia Sandu, who stated that any progress in this direction could be achieved only after the end of the Ukrainian crisis.
Recall that the previous round of negotiations in the 5+2 format was held in Bratislava in October 2019. In February last year, Ukraine, for its part, suspended the activities of military observers in the peacekeeping mission in the Security Zone on the Dniester. As the Chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Zbigniew Rau, said a month later after completing his first working visit to Chisinau as head of the organization, it is too early to talk about holding the next meeting in this format, equally as well as under what conditions it will take place.
