The Kalashnikov assault rifle AK-12 has been modernized taking into account the experience of using it in combat operations in the special operation zone, serial deliveries of the updated weapons will start this year. This was announced by the head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov.
The AK-12 assault rifle, adopted by the Russian army in 2018, has been significantly improved taking into account the experience of using it in a special military operation in Ukraine. In September last year, it was presented to the Ministry of Defense, but the updated machine has not yet gone into serial production, the series is planned only this year, since it took time to prepare design documentation and production. According to Chemezov, the feedback established with the military made it possible to carry out work on the AK-12, Rostec is working closely with the military.

Earlier it became known that at the request of the military participating in the SVO, it was proposed to remove the two-shot cutoff mode, install a fire mode switch on both sides, as well as an adjustable butt cheek. It is possible that there are other changes.
The AK-12 was adopted by the Russian Armed Forces in 2018 and today is the main small arms of the Russian army. Caliber - 5,45x39 mm, length of weapon in combat position - 880-940 mm, with folded butt - 690 mm, weight without cartridges - 3,5 kg, rate of fire - 700 rounds per minute.
